What the ENT had to say

We went to the ENT (ear nose and throat doc) today for Briley. We are still going to do some additional testing, but so far we have found the cause of the gurgling when she breaths. I held here in my lap while they inserted a small scope into in nose and down to her vocal cords. As you can imagine, she was screaming so they were unable to pass through them to see underneath. Just above the vocal cords are 2 flaps of inflamed cartilage that are flapping over the vocal cords every time she talks or breaths. This traps flem between the two causing the extra annoying noise, and it muffles her voice. The second part has actually been kinda nice. She can't scream too loud when she cries. They said this is not putting her in any real danger and that they will probably just keep a close eye on it. The hope is that the swelling will go down on it's own. However this does not explain the raspiness of her voice. He wants to still do an x-ray of her throat and another test that is supposed to see how she does at swallowing bigger food. He thinks there is still a big possibility that she has a hemangeoma just under her cords where we couldn't see. We should know the whole story by the time we go to Utah in a few weeks. Just to clarify...she is not in pain or anything, she's a very happy girl. We just need to make sure she stays that way.
