Baby Briley is here!

It all started at 4:00 am, Friday August 29, when we arrived at the hospital where Nikki was to be induced. She was hooked up to the machines and then around 5:30 am she was induced. Contractions started to build and were now 2-4 minutes apart.

At 9:30 am, the doctor came in and "broke her water." Then came the uncomfortable contractions. I let Nikki hold my hand during the contractions until my fingers were being squished by my wedding ring.

Around 10:15 am she asked for an epidural. She did not receive the epidural until 11:30am. She experienced "real" labor pains and did not like it at all...big wuss. J/K (I am really kidding!)

Once she received the "goods," some of the pain was gone. Only the left side of her body was numb and she could feel the right side still. As we are trying to find the anesthesiologist, around 11:55 am, our nurse says that she wants to check to see how dialated she was. As she looks, she immediately left to call the doctor and said that the baby's head is right there and about to come out. She told Nikki to close her legs.

The doctor's office is attached to the hospital, so he made it to the room in about 5 minutes.

Now the delivery. Once the doctor walked in, he said to bear down and try to push the baby out. After the third contraction, she was bearing down and then she choked on her own spit and caughed the baby's head out. She caughed again and the baby just slid out! I was there pushing her right leg back into her chest and got to experience the whole thing. It was amazing.

Briley weighed 6 lb. 8 oz, 18 inches long and was born at 12:10 pm. She seems to be healthy so far and was able to sleep in the same room as Nikki the first night. What a change from Bryant's birth! Nikki is doing great, compared to Bryant's birth, and was able to get up, walk around, take a shower, and eat after delivery. Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

We will be posting pictures as the week goes on.

Nikki's mom was there until 9:30 am and had to leave to take Nikki's brother to the airport and to baby sit Bryant so she unfortunately missed the birth. She got to sleep in Nikki's recovery room the first night and have lots of time with the baby though.

Oh! She's so sweet! I'm so happy to hear that the delivery went smoothly and wasn't a repeat of what happened with Bryant!

Give Baby Briley a smooch for me.

They had you get there at 4am to be induced??? That's brutal! Don't they know you're going to be sleep deprived for the next few months anyway?

Wow. Well congratulations. I can't believe she was as big as our little guy! Nice and petite. Coughs out easier I guess. :)
